What?
This course provides participants with the forum to transform their pedagogical approaches in relation to the framework Education for Sustainability (EfS), leveraging a problem-based learning approach. This peer-led & participatory approach engages learners on the topics of connection, competencies, teaching methods, and responsibilities in higher education. The course embodies the values of presence, care, honesty, respect, and engagement.

When?
The course runs from 18 January to 28 April 2027 and corresponds to approximately 80 hours of work in total.
Common webinars are planned mainly for Mondays and Fridays, while recurring PBL group meetings are expected to take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays.
Who?
We invite educators and educational developers in higher education who want to discuss and develop didactic approaches that promote the knowledge, skills and values needed to contribute to a more sustainable world. Participants from contributing institutions, as well as the wider global higher education community, are invited to apply.
How?
Applications for HEDS 2027 are now open. Apply no later than 12 December 2026.
Applying is the first step in the participation process. During December, when facilitator capacity and possible recurring PBL meeting times have been established, applicants will be contacted again and asked to confirm their participation and which available PBL meeting times they can commit to.
Final places and PBL groups will be confirmed only after this second step.

Taking part in HEDS is more than signing up for a course – it means stepping into a shared container for learning. This requires presence, openness, and a willingness to stay with the process rather than focusing only on the product. By crossing this threshold, you commit to a journey of reflection, experimentation, and co-creation.

If you have participated in an earlier iteration of HEDS, or have relevant experience to contribute, you are invited to contribute to HEDS 2027 through facilitation, topic development and/or coordination and organisational support.
Please register your interest in contributing no later than 16 October 2026 so that you can be included in the preparatory work during the autumn.
